About meI've been keeping African pygmy hedgehogs as pets since 2013. Prior to that I worked at a wildlife rescue centre with our native European hedgehogs. Since then I have completed my biology degree with a specialism in genetics and inheritance, I have studied attachment in early years and developmental biology and have worked in animal welfare and microbiology roles.
Outside of hedgehogs I have two border collies whom i dabble in sports with, mainly agility and scentwork. I also enjoy sailing dinghy's with my partner! |
About Watoki
Since owning african pygmy hedgehogs it has been my goal to learn as much as possible about the species and become a breeder. My first two hedgehogs, Arya and Benson, had fantastic lineage and temperaments. I would have loved to breed from either of them but being new to the species I wanted to make sure I was experienced and knowledgeable before doing so. I spent a long time seeking my foundation stud hog, with friendly temperament and unusual lineage being my priority, and so when I eventually came across Judith at the hedgehog program I knew I was on to a winner. Judith had a litter of four hedgehogs from Nova and Moanna who I was able to choose from and I selected Beaujolais for his unusual markings and sweet nature. The fact that Judith kept the other male for herself just goes to show the confidence she has in her ability to breed for desirable traits. Since owning Beau I have been searching for a female to match his temperament which had been no easy task until I found Ethel. I am still searching for carefully bred hedgehogs with interesting pedigrees and markings to match and hope to expand into black based and masked hogs as well as uniquely marked hedgehogs.
